While not many would think of C4SW as simply a plumbing and electrical business, it also carries out a variety of activities that benefit the country’s TVET sector. One of its key contributions is organizing On-the-Job Training for trainees from Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) under the Department of Workforce Planning and Skills Development (DWPSD). This OJT program is extremely important as it provides trainees with practical, hands-on, real-world experience.
C4SW supports OJT by engaging trainees from JWPTI, Rangjung TTI, Khuruthang TTI, and other institutes. Through this program, trainees are actively involved in real-life learning while also receiving a nominal daily wage as an incentive. This approach not only gives them the opportunity to learn but also ensures they are motivated and supported during the training. Increasingly, trainees in plumbing and electrical trades prefer to participate in C4SW’s OJT program because it allows them to truly learn while receiving accommodation and some pocket money.
An officer from the Labour Department remarked, “Although this is not our mandate, we have been encouraging C4SW to take in more trainees on OJT to ensure that our TVET students gain first-hand experience in real work environments. It is crucial to guide and motivate trainees to pursue the trades for which they are trained. This is one of the ways we can connect trainees with the relevant industry. Even if it is not formally our responsibility, we cannot leave it unaddressed. We must take practical, impactful actions to build our national workforce. What matters most is motivating our trainees and developing skilled local talent.”
Currently, JWPTI’s trainees are attached with C4SW, and the institute is actively monitoring the program to ensure its effectiveness.
